PRE-PRODUCTION
When I first came up with the concept, I brainstormed several ideas for different food creatures and narrowed it down to just four: the bacon, the sandwich (later burger), the roast chicken, and the cake.
Concept art and an initial turnaround of the "frog" from the film. Initially a sandwich, I turned it into a burger because I felt that a burger's simpler shapes would be easier to animate.
Below are the turnarounds and concept art for some of the other creatures. I experimented with the cake monster and what it would look like, keeping its ultimate fate in mind.
PRODUCTION
The backgrounds were all made in FireAlpaca.
This one static "detail shot" was also made in FireAlpaca.
Some of the more static elements (which were moved across the screen but did not require multiple drawings to animate) were also drawn in FireAlpaca for an illustrative look.
All the characters, by contrast, were animated frame-by-frame in ToonBoom.
After finishing the bare minimum coloring for every shot, I added more details, like seeds, highlights, and a colored outline, assured that I had enough leftover time to complete it. The colored outlines especially made the characters fit in better with the lineless backgrounds.
